
CHARTERS TOWERS combined agents yarded a total of 910 cattle consisting of 584 prime cattle and 336 store cattle at the weekly sale.
The prime cattle yarded comprised 384 bullocks, 108 heifers, 71 cows and 21 bulls.
The yarding was drawn from Richmond, Einasleigh, Hughenden, Mt Garnet, Ingham, Collinsville, Townsville and the Charters Towers district.
Bullocks were quoted 5-8 cents easier, heifers 6-9c easier, lighter cows 6-8c easier and heavy cows were 6-8c dearer, bulls were 6-9c easier on last sale’s rates.
Heifers to 440kg made 115c to average 103c, cows to 400kg made 138c to average 100c, cows over 400kg made 117c to average 110c/kg
Steers to 500kg made 153c to average 138c, Steers over 500kg made 159c to average 150c. Bulls over 450kg made 106c to average 90c/kg.
Bullocks topped at 159.2c/kg sold by Pedracini Grazing, Scartwater, which weighed 555kg to return $884per head while a line of 339 bullocks sold by Max Kelso, Richmond, topped at 154.2c/kg and the line averaged 142.2c/kg to average 487kg and return an average per head of $692.34
The best priced trade heifers were presented by Welcome Downs Cattle Co, Einasleigh, which made 115c/kg to weigh 403kg and return $464 per head while the top pen of cows was sold on by the Henderson Group, Lassie Creek, Charters Towers, for 117c/kg and weighed 435kg to return $509per head.
Bulls sold by Malcolm Fox, Charters Towers, topped at 106c/kg and weighed 505kg to return $536 per head.
There were fewer store cattle yarded this week with the yarding comprising 58 steers 276 heifers and two cow and calf units. Store prices eased compared to last sale with only one big line of speyed heifers yarded from the Einasleigh area.
Steers to 200kg made 156c to average 137c, steers 200-320kg made 130c to average 130c, steers 320-400kg made 138c to average 81c, no steers over 400kg offered.
Heifers to 200kg made 118c to average 110c, heifers 200-320kg made 131c to average 105c, heifers 320-370kg made 111c to average 106c, no heifers over 370 offered.
A pen of two steers sold by BJ and KL Burdell, Alligator Creek, made 156c/kg weighed 202kg and realised $316 per head while a good line of grey and red Brahman mostly No-0 maiden speyed heifers sold by Welcome Downs Cattle Co, Lyndhurst, Einasleigh, sold to a top of 111c/kg and the line averaged 106c/kg to average 313kg and return $332 per head.
There were inadequate numbers of cows and calves to quote.
