CHARTERS TOWERS combined agents yarded a total of 991 cattle on Wednesday, March 27 with the yarding consisting of 400 prime cattle and 591 store cattle with the prime sector comprising 63 bullocks, 37 heifers, 225 cows and 75 bulls.

Cattle comprised of mixed lines that sold to reduced competition on a tougher market. The yarding was drawn from Richmond, Pentland, Hughenden, Collinsville, Greenvale and Local and Coastal areas.
Bullocks were quoted 10c easier, heifers were 5-7c dearer and Cows were 10c easier on last sale’s rates.
Heifers to 440kg made 95c to average 74c, heifers over 440kg made 106c to average 96c. Cows to 400kg made 75c to average 52c, cows over 400kg made 100c to average 77c/kg.
Steers to 500kg made 129c to average 102c, steers over 500kg made 135c to average 124c and Bulls over 450kg made 115c to average 90c/kg.
Bullocks topped at 135.2c/kg for five ox sold by Hann Creek Grazing which weighed 580kg to return $784 per head while the best priced trade heifers were presented by KA Knuth Investments Pty Ltd, Glencoe, Charters Towers, which made 106.2c/kg to weigh 476kg and return $472 per head.
The top pen of cows was sold by RI and DA McCullough, Bruslee Station, Charters Towers for 99.2c/kg and weighed 476kg to return $472 per head while bulls sold by GI Brahman Stud, Muttaburra, topped at 115.2c/kg and weighed 743kg to return $859 per head.
Store Cattle yarded comprised 229 steers, 203 heifers, 22 mickeys and 67 cows and calves.
The store cattle were mainly two lines of good cattle with the remainder of the yard in either smaller lots or of lesser quality that were back again on the previous Friday’s store sale.
Steers to 200kg made 129c to average 119c, steers 200-320kg made 140c to average 124c, steers 320-400kg 139c to average 120c, steers over 400kg made 90c to average 90c/kg.
Heifers to 200kg made 104c to average 78c, heifers 200-320kg made 119c to average 93c, heifers 320-370kg made 72c to average 72c, heifers over 370kg made 129c to average 119c/kg.
A pen of steers sold by EJ and ME Callcott, Ellenvale, Pentland, made 140.2c/kg weighed 243kg and realised $340 per head and a good pen of 17 heifers sold by G and K Forster, Stonington, Pentland, made 119.2c/kg to weigh 201.5kg returning $240 per head.
Cows and calves also sold by G and K Forster, Stoningtonc Pentland, returned $380 per unit.
