
CHARTERS Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 719 cattle at its weekly sale on April 24, which consisted of 531 prime cattle and 188 store cattle.
The yarding was predominantly of prime cattle with the bulk of cattle presented well finished. Prime cattle consisted of 39 Bullocks, 22 Heifers, 406 Cows and 64 Bulls and the store cattle consisted of 21 Steers, 165 Heifers, 1 Cow and 1 Cow and Calf.
The yarding was drawn from Richmond, Hughenden, Pentland, Belyando Crossing, Collinsville, Hervey’s Range and the local Charters Towers area.
The prime market eased across the board this week, in line with other centres. Bullocks were quoted as 7c easier, heifers were unchanged and cows were 2-5c easier on last week’s rates.
Bullocks topped 140c/kg for a pen of crossbred bullocks presented by Mt Douglas Pastoral Co, “Mt Douglas”, Clermont, which weighed 587kg to return $822 per head.
The best priced trade heifers sold by Camm Cattle Co, “Chudleigh”, Hughenden for 112c/kg. They weighed in at 365kg and returned $409 per head.
The top pen of cows was sold by Cargoon Pty Ltd, Pentland, for 105c/kg to weigh 535kg and return $563 per head.
Bulls sold by Camm Cattle Co, “Chudleigh”, Hughenden, topped at 111c/kg and weighed 650kg to return $722 per head.
Store Cattle were in limited numbers on the back of last Friday’s Special Store Sale, however, the cattle presented sold to a panel of buyers with rates comparable to previous weeks.
A pen of 9 good quality red Brahman No 1 steers from Desley Williams, Charters Towers, made 121c/kg, weighed 407kg and realised $494 per head.
A pen of crossbred weaner steers sold by Rowan Toohey, Charters Towers, topped the sale at 141c/kg, weighing 156kg to return $221 per head.
A good pen of 12 red Brahman cross heifers sold by CP & NA Ferguson, “Cardigan Station” Charters Towers, made 120c/kg to weigh 294kg, and returned a good average of $354 per head.
A pen of crossbred weaner heifers from Bamleigh Pastoral, “Broadleigh”, Charters Towers, sold for 126c/kg, weighed 134kg to return $169 per head.
