"THIS week the ABC's 7.30 broadcast footage of the shocking abuse of cattle in an Egyptian abattoir, and two years ago, the horrific vision shown on Four Corners precipitated the suspension of live cattle exports to Indonesia.
"There are few words to appropriately describe the mistreatment these programs record, nor the reaction they provoke, but the ABC has a responsibility to the Australian public to do more than provide a sensational story, especially when the story is truly sensational.
"The ABC has a responsibility, as set out in its editorial policies, to report with impartiality and on a diverse range of perspectives.
"Stories that shock the public consciousness demand more analysis than most.
"Unfortunately, the ABC appears to be failing to bring animal welfare stories within a robust editorial grip."
