LOCAL youth and children had big success with the Tots, Junior and Juvenile drafts, while experienced campdrafters put on some exciting displays at the Tully Campdraft over the three days from August 30 to September 1, taking home a cache of prizes.
Family fun and excitement included Sunday horse-sports, music by Justine Douglas, auctions and a dog high-jump contest running as well as the full Campdraft program.
In the Neil Blenner and J&R Cortis Lil Britches Draft, Hollie Thompson on Playboy was the outright winner followed by Erin Blennerhassett on Bingil Willis, there was a tie for third with Tori Condon on Socks and Grace Thompson on Fancy, while Shae-Anne Cortis on Charlotte was fifth.
The BJ&A Smith Junior Draft was a scorcher. Lucy Walters on Looks Pretty Smart got a 24 Cut-Out and had a try for the gate to win, followed by Larissa Ligasacchi on Players Little Rosette in second place she also took her beast to the gate. Only 10 points separated second to sixth; third was Abbey Taylor on Pilgrim, fourth was Will Thompson on Gunman, fifth was Beau Hatfield on Romeo, and sixth was Esen Abrahams on Pony.
The Northern Charbrays Juvenile Draft was ridden late Saturday evening giving the teenagers an extra challenge in the low light. Some great scores were recorded in the first four places. First was Jessie Petersen on Sabrina, second with a better outside score but a difficult cut-out was Luke Smith on Downtown, one point behind in third was Rylee Kelly on Brandy,, in fourth with a complete course was Clancy Naughton on Naughtons Rocky Mountain. In fifth with the best cut-out (22) was Teiryn Smith on Bluegum and equal sixth on 21 for the cut-out were Rylee Kelly on Ember and Jamie McQuillan on Connor.
Morbridge Santa Gertrudis Encouragement Draft was won by young talented horseman Joshua Sutherland on Maverick with 84; second on 83 was Andrea Davy on Alibrandi; third on 82 was committee man, Rusty Smith on Pepi; fourth with 79, was Mick Jenkins on Rookie. Equal fifth went to the two highest (23) cut-out scorers, Glen Connolly on Durkins Maria and Zane Hatfield on Gibson.
The EE Muir & Sons and A&P Crema Maiden Draft had 154 starters, there were 14 finalists of score 84 and over, of which four went on to make another outside score. Over the two rounds, Peter Glenwright Laroona on Sugarland was first; one point behind in second was Sarah Martin on Banjo; John Woodward on Jackson placed third, while Doug O’Neill on Blazing Destiny came in fourth. Second round scores of 22 and 21 gave John Cross on Whistling Destiny fifth and Harvey Walters on Special sixth. Peter Glenwright and John Cross both scored highest (23) cut-out putting them into a run-off for the prize where John was 23 again and Peter 18.
Condon’s Open Campdraft had 12 finalists, after two rounds, the two leaders on 172 went in for a run-off. Jack Mann on Hillgrove Mars was first and Peter Glenwright on Laroona Sugarland second. In third place was Peter Glenwright on Laroona Sabrano (another Soda Nomad offspring); fourth by one point was Ingrid O’Neill on Pepsie; Kevin Taylor on Perfection placed fifth and equal sixth were Branch President, Brett Blennerhassett on Bingil Popstar and Peter Glenwright on Laroona Heleena.
At first light, Sunday’s drafting started with Ergon Energy and Derwentvale ASH Ladies Draft. The first six places were separated by only six points. First was a tie, so a run-off cut-out was played and the winner on 108 was Dal-Marie Glenwright on Toomba Oracle, second (107) was daughter, Jess, Backstreet. Placing third was Ingrid O’Neill Gregon; Penny Thompson on Mintona Figure fourth and in fifth on Eclipse and sixth went to Sarah Martin on Winsome.
The Macquarrie Trucks Hi-Rollers Draft was brilliant with five points separating the first five places. Taking home the big money was Doug O’Neill on Monsoon, second went to Peter Glenwright on Laroona Sabrano, there was a 3-way tie for third on 82 between Harvey Walters on Looks Pretty Smart, Ian Frohloff on Mallanganee Pot Shot and Aaron Land on Montana. Harvey won the Cut-Out (23) on Dual n Spin.
Tully Tropical Vet Services & Ingham Rural Novice Draft was a big event with 19 finalists. Outright winner was Jack Mann Hillgrove Rockafella, one point separated Aaron Land on Montana in second and Kevin Taylor on Perfection in third; Jess Glenwright on Diamond placed fourth; John Cross on Casey was fifth; equal sixth went to Zoe O’Neill on Zaire and Clancy Naughton on Naughtons Georgia. Nev Condon won the highest Cut-Out (23) on Lethal Lucinda.
The last event, the Mt Echos ASH Draft, continued Peter Glenwright’s winning streak as he came in first on Laroona Black Eyed Pea, second place was secured by Zoe O’Neill on Zaire; third went to Jack Mann on Allinghams Black Jack; fourth was Kevin Taylor on Mt Echos Real Sox; fifth was Alisa O’Connor on Green Gully Mystique; sixth was Tracey Whitson on Cloudnine Revelation; and seventh was Clancy Naughton on Naughtons Georgia.
