THE PARADISE Lagoons campdraft may have come and gone, but celebrations continued last Friday night with a “Party in the Pavilion” to say thank you to major sponsors.
Donations were also a major part of the evening with more than $60,000 donated to important local community services.
The Paradise Lagoons campdraft committee wrote out $15,000 cheques for the Rockhampton RFDS Auxiliary, Capricorn Helicopter Rescue, Gracemere Pony Club and The Cathedral College.
It was the first time the campdraft was held over five days and to ensure the grounds were kept immaculate, The Caves Lions Club was hired. A smaller donation was also made to the Lions Club to say thank you for their immense efforts.
Paradise Lagoons campdraft President, Graeme Acton, said it was necessary to recognise the rescue services as “you never know when you may need them” while education – both in and outside of school – were invaluable assets.
Mr Acton said the RFDS came to the rescue this year when his son had to use the service, while three generations of his family had enjoyed Pony Club.
When it came to the success of the campdraft, Mr Acton indicated it was the women on the Paradise Lagoons campdraft committee who were the secret superpowers.
Like the campdraft, the sponsors evening was a success with more than 100 people in attendance.
