Last week’s meeting saw in excess of 400 patrons turn out to enjoy a day of racing at the Cloncurry race course where wadies from across dressed to the “nines” for the iconic Victorian Derby Day meeting. It was very obvious that black and white were the colours the fashionistas decided was “in” for this meeting.
The $8000 Ernst Henry Mining Class-6 Plate was won by the Denise Ballard trained Marina Sands with one of the North’s most successful jockeys, Dan Ballard aboard with the minor placings being decided by a photo. In the end it was the highly fancied and favourite Steinberg 2nd with Tasha Chambers aboard and the John Rudd piloted Outback Elsa 3rd.
This was the final meeting for Cloncurry this year and racing in the North-West finished for 2013 with the Melbourne Cup meeting in Mt Isa.
