IT was a tough day for this reporter when she had to join the NTCA Ladies Day, a day built on leisure, luxury and fine dining.
Some 130 ladies lined Darwin’s Smith Street Mall on March 26 to begin the NTCA Ladies Day with a private viewing and insight into the Australian saltwater crocodile skin and pearling industries at di CROCO and Paspaley.
Many were captivated by di CROCO’s new jewellery range and were lucky enough to receive a complimentary crocodile skin pendant later in the day.
At Paspaley, the ladies became acquainted with the Paspaley smile, a particularly large smile that takes over a woman’s face when she is adorned in pearls.
Two lucky ladies were given the chance to try on strands worth $100,000 and the Paspaley smile soon followed. Champagne was on offer for those unable to take home a strand of their own.
The champers continued to flow at Government House, where the Administrator of the Northern Territory, the Honourable Sally Thomas AM showed the ladies around the rooms adorned in 1930s décor.

It was onto lunch at the only-opened-the-day-before restaurant, Quintessence on The Avenue where the ladies were treated to a butchering demonstration from MLA’s Gary McPherson. Gary turned a rump into gourmet cuts of meat that had to be seen to be believed.
There was entertainment from Max Fredericks, a photo booth, more gifts and prizes. But, the highlight of the lunch for many was the guest speaker, Catriona Rowntree, who told the ladies about how persistence led to her victory in broadcast journalism.
