STUDMASTER and commercial cattle producer buyers of poll Droughtmaster bulls will welcome the forthcoming annual MAGS Droughtmaster Sale at Charters Towers on Monday, November 10.
Eighty bulls are catalogued for the sale and all bulls, bar one, are poll or scurred.
The sale is conducted by family member descendants of Droughtmaster breed pioneer Monty Atkinson and in its 13 years, has established itself as the leading Droughtmaster bull sale of the North.
Regular vendors Mac and Gayle Shann, Lamont Stud, Kylie Graham, Mungalla Stud, Hugh and Sherri Philp, Valley Stud and Alison Atkinson, Durack Stud, have selected 62 registered sires and 18 herd bulls for this year’s auction.
“The last few years have been extremely tough for Northern cattle producers; our target market,” Mac Shann said.
“However, it is important that we maintain our bull sale at a high standard and meet the market of those people who have been supporting MAGS since its inception,” he said.
Selling Agents Geaney’s and McCaffrey’s Australian Livestock Marketing are strongly recommending the sale will be a real value buying opportunity for studs and steer breeders.
“There are quality, well bred, high performance sire prospects to choose from, and lines of attractive, strong carcass type commercial bulls ideally suited for premium steer production,” Ken McCaffrey said.
“It will be a market that favours buyers because of the continuing dry in the North, so astute cattle producers from the Central areas, where there has already been some rain, should be heading to MAGS,” he said.
The reputation of the MAGS Sale genetics in the Droughtmaster stud industry and the commercial beef industry has been further enhanced during 2014 with feature Championship success for prime MAGS bloodline steers at the Clermont Show, and the exceptional sale progeny success of Lamont Inmate at the recent Rockhampton Droughtmaster National Sale.
2010 MAGS Sale graduate Lamont Inmate had eight sons sell at the high profile sale this year, selling to a top of $36,000 and averaging $13,938.
“Again these excellent across-industry results provide Droughtmaster enthusiasts with plenty of reasons to invest in MAGS Sale bulls,” sale co-agent Jim Geaney said.
The sale bulls are generally 24 to 27 months of age, presented in strong, fit condition. Excellent temperament is a feature of the MAGS offering, and all registered sires have undergone semen morphology testing. The herd bulls too have passed a veterinary semen test.
Prominent sale sirelines include the proven producers Durack Uranus, Mungalla Tempo, Glenlands Oratorio, Mungalla Total, Strathfield Wizdom, Mungalla Trivia as well as Mungalla Ringo, Mungalla Wickham, Valley Garret and Mungalla Total.
