Lanes Creek tops Big Country with $62,500 Grey

As the North Queensland Register went to print the first day of the sale on the Monday had concluded with the second day in progress.

The success story of the sale so far has been the draft of bulls offered by Brian and Cindy Hughes, Lanes Creek Brahmans, Georgetown, who had so far achieved the top price of sale on Tuesday morning with Lot 108 Lanes Creek Marocco Manso 1449 (AI) (ET) (H) selling for $62,500. He was purchased by a partnership between Bill Blakeney, Warraka Brahman Stud, and Royce Sommerfeld, Brahrock Brahman stud.

Brian Hughes had high expectations for 24 month-old Grey going into the sale due to his impeccable combination of desirable traits,

“He combines breed quality, sire character, eye appeal and correctness with big body volume, natural thickness, lovely length, strong bone, big square hindquarter, excellent sheath and strong topline in a fantastic package,” Mr Hughes said.

“He is fit, active and presents with the proud presence of a real sire,” he said.

Lanes Creek topped the sale on Monday as well with Lot 15 Lanes Creek Komrade 1240 (P) achieving the days’ high mark of $30,000. The bull sold to Joe and Felicity Streeter, Fairy Springs Brahman Stud, Taroom.

Another very successful vendor on the first day of the sale day was Palmal Stud, Dingo, with David and Julie McCamley draft of four bulls averaging $11,125/head with a top price of $15,000 for Lot 8 Palmal Windsor 6110 (P). The bull sold to Clayton Curley, Gipsy Plains, Cloncurry.

Of the 78 bulls offered on the first day only two were passed in.
