A CHANGE in the timing for Central Queensland’s leading field days event has added to its attraction for buyers of high quality bulls and high standard stockhorses.
The Ag-Grow Field Days at Emerald is finding exhibitors and regular visitors to the three day event have welcomed their decision to move to a Thursday, Friday and Saturday end of week program.
This year the Ag-Grow Multi-Breed Beef Bull Sale will be held on Friday, July 10, while the Ag-Grow Premier Ridden Horse Sale will be staged on Saturday, July 11.
“The Friday and Saturday timing for our sales is going to suit a lot more people, and is better for them to travel and attend the event,” sale co-ordinator Ken McCaffrey of McCaffrey’s Australian Livestock Marketing said.
Selling agents GDL and McCaffrey’s Australian Livestock Marketing have catalogued 100 bulls representing five British and European breeds for the bull sale auction.
Angus are the leading breed by numbers with 40 bulls, however impressive selections of 23 Simmental, 22 Charolais, nine Red Angus and six Murray Grey bulls give cattle producers looking for top quality, working age bulls ideally suited to cross breeding programs, a further selection to choose from.
“This sale is aimed at those producers with good strong Bos Indicus based cow herds who want to optimise production and profit in the Central and Northern Queensland cattle country through the benefits of cross breeding,” Mr McCaffrey said.
“It is the best all round bull sale selection of these breeds in the closest proximity to Central and Northern bull buyers,” he said.
The description, breeding and potential of the 67 quality ridden horses catalogued for the Ag-Grow Premier Horse Sale indicates this year’s sale line-up of 35 mares and fillies and 32 geldings is the best yet in the 10 year history of the sale.
Outstanding, nationally acclaimed stockhorse bloodlines are represented through the offering, with proven and potential laden campdraft performers, challenge and horse sport prospects, ideal ladies and youths mounts catalogued among a large selection of excellent, reliable, well-bred stockhorse and mustering types perfect for station cattle work.
“We couldn’t be happier with this year’s ridden horse offering.
“We believe the sale line-up is of a high standard with the top lots right up with the best of any sale across the industry.”
Reinforcing the agents’ high assessment of the sale lots, a preview of the catalogue reveals stylish mares catalogued by highly credentialed sires Lindsay, Acres Destiny, Arcadia Realm, Lethal Lena, Pistol Packin Lena, Destination Unknown, Kirkbys Stud Omaha, Kirkbys Stud Officer, Kirkbys Stud Octagonal, Dogwood Comet, Dandilla Cool Cody, Ranch and Romance, Kool O’Lena, RBH Whiz Kid, Romeos Restraint, and others.
A new innovation benefiting buyers at this year’s sale is that a number of horses will work with cattle in their pre-sale workouts from 8am on sale morning.
