A milestone will be reached at this year’s ever-popular Mt Garnet Races and Rodeo being held from Friday, May 4 to Sunday, May 6, at the LD Lucey Memorial Park, with the turf club marking its 80th anniversary.
Mt Garnet Rodeo committee secretary Kylie Rankine said the event is steeped in tradition and has gone from strength-to-strength over the years, remaining a bedrock of the local social calendar.
“Each year it provides a great opportunity to catch up with friends and family from near and afar, while making plenty of new mates along the way from all over the globe,” Kylie said.
The merriment will get underway at the Mt Garnet Golf Club on the night of Thursday, May 3, with a meet and greet social function and calcutta.
Friday’s action on the track is sure to be fast and furious during the Pioneers Race Day which will be followed by another calcutta and live entertainment. And to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the race meeting, the Mt Garnet Turf Club will be hosting a ticketed cocktail party on the grounds.
The thrills on and off the track will continue on Saturday with the Totally Workwear Cashmere Cup Race Day taking place, during which elegant ladies and stylish gents will showcase their wares during the Fashions on the Field competition. In the evening A boxing tournament will be held at the Turf Club dance hall.
After two days of racing, it’ll be time to get down and dirty ringside during the Sunday rodeo program which will begin at 9am and carry on into the evening.
“We had record nominations for the rodeo last year, and we’re confident we’ll get close to the same number of entries this year, especially with the inclusion of the steer undecorating event to the program.”
During the day a trade show will be open with close to 20 exhibitors expected, and an auction will take place during the rodeo with a plethora of great items going under the hammer.
