Townsville Orthopaedic surgeon, Dr Phil Sheard and an accredited Orthopaedic Registrar were in Mount Isa last week for the first of regular monthly visits to Mount Isa Hospital for face-to-face consultations with public orthopaedic patients.
North West Hospital and Health Services Chief Executive, Lisa Davies Jones said it was great to have the regular service resuming after some time.
“It will be much more convenient for our patients who have orthopaedic conditions, as it will mean they won’t have to travel to see an orthopaedic specialist,” Ms Davies Jones said.
In addition to the monthly face-to-face consultations, Dr Sheard said he would be following up his patients with a weekly telehealth clinic at Mount Isa Hospital in 2018.
“I’m delighted to be coming to Mount Isa on a regular basis, and it’s much more preferable for me to be travelling to see my patients, than for them to have to travel to see me.
“Follow up with telehealth clinics is an excellent and economical way (in terms of time and money) to ensure ongoing care,” Dr Sheard said.
Dr Sheard’s next visit to Mount Isa will be 29 January 2018.
