The impending heat wave started warming up Central Queensland along with the 40th Anniversary National Charbray Sale at CQLX recently.
Overall, the sale resulted in 53 bulls selling for a gross of $335,000 to average $6320 for a clearance of 70 per cent.
Top price of the day came from the Gooding family’s Marlegoo Stud, Biloela when Marlegoo Leo, the poll sire by Huntington Hanabull, found his new home at fellow sale vendor’s property George and Cathy Hoare’s Braylyn Charbrays, Rockview, Bluff for the $24,000 top.
Leo, the honey coloured 25-month-old poll bull weighed in at 938kg and was a long awaited addition to the Hoare family’s stud as they had been trying to source a poll bull, but one that fitted their other list of criteria to suit their current breeding program.
The Gooding family had a very strong average of $8250 for their eight bulls offered on the day.
The Hoare family also had a successful day as vendors when they sold the second top price bull, Braylyn Maverick to the Welsh family, Huntington Charolais and Charbrays, Taroom for $18,000.
Third top price of $15,000 was reached twice, firstly by the Ziemer family’s poll sire Cedar Park Chavez who found a new home with the Bredhauer family, Lambert Pastoral, Acton Charbrays, Charleville.
Next to hit the $15,000 mark was the Marshall family’s Greenfield Louie who went to repeat buyers the Ziesemer family, Beaumont Grazing, Taroom.
Volume buyer of the day was the Pickersgille Group, Washpool, Comet represented by Morty Wilson, Savage Barker Backhouse who put together a line of 14 bulls.
The evening before saw seven outstanding heifers offered in the Elite Female sale held at the Great Western Hotel, Rockhampton where a 100 per cent clearance was achieved with a $3700 average.
Top price female was sold by the Welsh family, Huntington Charbrays, Taroom and was purchased for $5500 by Viv Hunt, Dellyvon Charbrays, Calliope.
