RACQ LifeFlight Rescue has airlifted a man after he suffered a heart attack during a ride-on lawn mower racing competition near Bullyard, approximately 30 km west of Bundaberg yesterday (Sunday) afternoon.
The man, in his 70s, was competing during the organised event when he suffered the attack and fell off his lawn mower.
Event first-aid responders and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) paramedics treated the man at the scene before the Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter - with a Critical Care doctor on board - landed at a nearby school oval.
He was airlifted in a critical but stable condition to the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane.
The local Fathers’ Day event was being run as a fundraiser for a local children’s charity.
Later that day the Sunshine Coast-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter attended a single-vehicle accident near Gympie after a 31-year old driver collided with a tree.
The man was airlifted from Archery Park in Gympie and flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.
It concluded a busy weekend for the RACQ LifeFlight Rescue service, performing 19 missions since Friday night.
They included five motor vehicle accidents, one search and rescue involving an injured trail bike rider, four incidents where the helicopter landed at the accident scene and nine inter-hospital transfers.
