The top 18 bull riders in Australia and four top ranked riders from Brazil and Mexico along with the rankest bucking bulls in the country will bring their high-adrenaline action back to Cairns FNQ July 8 at Cairns Convention Centre where they will vie for their piece of the $25,000 payout.
22-year-old Atherton born and bred Kurt Shepherd has nerves of steel and an iron will, climbing on top of the bucking one tonne beasts determined to get him the hell off their backs all part of the exhilaration he’s addicted to.
With countless wins and high placements over the past 5 years, he’s now living the dream life in Fort Worth Texas with 3 other Aussie bull riders. With rodeo in his veins, travelling to the local rodeos is what he lives for.
Competing in the senior ranks of bull riding since 2012, he’s been riding professionally with PBR since 2013. Growing up around horses and cattle on the family farm, Kurt found himself keen to ride at the age of 5. Climbing on top of calves at branding time was something he loved to do as an ankle-biter.
After winning a mechanical bull riding competition at Laura NQ when he was 14, it got him thinking about the fact he might be able to make it in the big time, and he has, time and time again. He dreams to be a world champion bull rider and will stop at nothing until he achieves it.
Broken arms, legs and ankles, torn ligaments and a ruptured spleen, haven’t been enough to deter him - quitting is just not an option. He was born to ride, and conquer.
