Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 1592 cattle on June 7 and prices remained firm.
The sale consisted of 738 prime cattle (73 bullocks, 17 heifers, 582 cows and 66 bulls) and 854 store cattle (413 steers, 407 heifers, 34 x 34 cows and calves).
Prime cattle comprised of mostly mixed lines of local cattle supported by drafts from Normanton and Hughenden.
The condition of the yarding was good with only a small percentage showing signs of the colder weather.
Bullocks were quoted 8-12c dearer, heifers were unchanged and cows were unchanged on last week’s rates.
Bullocks topped at 285c/kg for a pen of Brahmans sold on account of F Eising that weighed 510kg to return $1454.
Best priced trade heifers were presented on behalf of JC Cross which made 264c/kg to weigh 365kg and return $964 per head.
The top pen of cows were sold by BB and DA Von Wald, for 226c/kg and weighed 516kg to return $1168 per head.
Bulls sold on account of D Jackson and Sons topped at 280c/kg and weighed 800kg to return $2241 per head.
Store cattle were drawn from the Gulf, Georgetown, Mareeba, Hughenden, local and coastal areas. They were in good store condition.
Store quotes saw a pen of 18 steers on account of J Norris, Sirron Station, Forsayth, made 380c/kg and weighed 217kg and realised $825 per head.
A good pen of 12 heifers sold on account of BA & LE Corbett made 302c/kg, weighed 221kg and returned a good average of $669 per head.
Cows and calves sold on account of A Copeman, Tully returned $1720 per unit.
The next prime and store sale is booked for Wednesday June 14.
