Visitors to the 2017 Burdekin Show will have a smorgasbord of activities to choose from when attending the fun-filled family event at the Ayr Showgrounds on Wednesday, June 28.
Ayr Pastoral, Agricultural and Industrial Association secretary Lorraine Strathdee said the annual event is a great day for the entire family.
“The show highlights the agricultural, commercial, trade and cultural aspects of our community for the people of Ayr, Home Hill, Brandon and surrounding area,” Mrs Strathdee said.
“It provides a great way to have a top time with your loved ones and friends while soaking in the unique atmosphere all the top entertainment the show has to offer.”
Gates to the show will open from 9.30am (with $2 entry from 9.30 am until 11am), with a flurry of activity to follow. Hop on Timmy the Train and tour the showgrounds before disembarking at Melville’s animal farm, where old and young alike can get close and cuddly with our furry and feathered friends.
If you’re interested in the more scaly creatures around us be sure to check out Luke’s Reptile Kingdom and get your photo taken with one of the many snakes that will be discussed.
Back by popular demand will be the Willows Mobile Slotcars display which Mrs Strathdee said “had a large queue of people all day” last year, eager to race their chosen car around the track. For thrilling action of a different kind check out the exploits of fearless trick rider thrills and excitement of Mikayla Jade.
The competitive spirit is expected to be high for the competitions being held which include the two-day equestrian program, the Wilmar sugar cane display, and displays and judging in the pavilion for poultry, caged birds, flowers galore, fruit and veg, cakes and sweets, needlework, art, woodwork, photography and writing.
“If you’re creative in any way, there will be something for you to have a go at.”
After a big day touring the grounds, gather your family and friends put down a blanket under the stars, and take in the spectacular fireworks display which will begin with a bang from 7.45pm.
Mrs Strathdee, thanks the Burdekin Shire Council for their continued support for the event.
“They provide the facility to us at no cost, we couldn’t put on the show without their support.
“I’d also like to thank our volunteers, for their time and hard work, and our sponsors for coming on board and supporting the event through thick and thin.
