A small but poignant service was held at the gravesite of the late Reverend Arthur Ernest White in Herberton, Far North Queensland, this morning.
The size of the service may not have been befitting for the actions Reverend White is famous for – he instigated the Anzac Day dawn service in Albany, Western Australia, in 1923, one of the most well known and popular traditions celebrated today.
But it was befitting for the man, whose request when he died was to have a simple inscription on his grave – A Priest. No fuss.
The small group of Anzac Day supporters who gathered beside the white grave today, remembered Reverend White and his achievements in a way he would have been happy with – a simple, no-fuss ceremony.
