Qantas opened an account with the Bank of New South Wales in Winton in 1921, so it was fitting that the Qantas Founders Museum in Longreach hosted a function to celebrate Westpac’s 200th birthday with regional customers this week.
As the commercial bank’s general manager, Alastair Welsh, said when he talked about the pleasure in being able to celebrate the occasion in Longreach, bringing his leadership team to western Queensland had been a valuable experience for them.
“Our business is about people,” he said. “We believe you have to have local people backing local businesses.”
Regional general manager, Peta Ward, thanked the 50 customers present for helping celebrate the milestone.
“Quite a number of you here tonight have links with go back as far as the bank’s existence,” she said.
