Every year the Julia Creek Dirt n Dust Festival hosts a luncheon on the Saturday to accompany the Artesian Express Race Day. This year in partnership with McKinlay Shire Mayor Belinda Murphy they have revamped the famous event to become better than ever before.
Just like the famous tents at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day, the Country Tastes Luncheon will bring a luxurious and elegant afternoon of fashion, gourmet food, wine and good company – only in the heart of the Outback!
This year expect newly renovated lounge area, white linen, flowers, table service, elegant décor and beautiful country style luncheon feast. All served with a side of that good old country hospitality.
McKinlay Shire Mayor Belinda Murphy is hosting the event this year and is the driving force behind the new glamorous vision of the famous luncheon.
“We want to create something that would rival the race days down south in the cities,” Cr Murphy said.
“We’ve got a race day that’s just as good out here and we think we can give them a run for their money. Queensland has some of the best food and produce in the country so we want to show it off.”
The weekend has so many components but year after year the luncheon continues to be a sell-out event that attracts crowds from all over the festival, dressed in both glamorous racewear and their best cowboy boots and Akubras.
This year the luncheon will be debuting the new ‘Taster Experience’, serving up samplings of that famous Red Claw with complimenting wine choices. The Red Claw tasters will be prepared by local cater Corrina Sollitt, who will put hours into creating the perfect smorgasbord for everyone to enjoy.
The luncheon will feature live music by Tony Cook, who will entertain the tables of attendees as they overlook an impressive display of country horse racing on the dusty track.
“It’s going to be a great event,” Cr Murphy said.
“We’re really hoping to keep this going for years to come. I think it will be a must-do on the weekend.”
The Country Taste Luncheon is sponsored by Donnie Harris Law and Warp Training QLD.
Tickets are available at www.dirtndust.com/ and must be pre-purchased before the event.
