UPDATE: 4pm
A man has been rescued from a tree after his road train was swept away in floodwaters 56 kilometres south of Cloncurry on the Duchess Road.
It was reported to Queensland Fire and Emergency Service at 5am this morning, that a prime mover and four trailers carrying copper concentrate, had been swept from Duck Creek causeway due to unexpected rain.
The prime mover submerged into the floodwaters, while the trailers remained upright.
The driver evacuated the cabin and was located in a nearby tree at 7.19am this morning.
QFES Mount Isa Station Officer, Scott Castree, said recent rainfall had caused a nearby catchment to overflow sending excess water downstream and over the causeway.
“We deployed swift water rescue technicians from Mount Isa Station, Cloncurry Fire Service and Cloncurry State Emergency Service to effectively rescue the driver,” he said.
“The driver was very fatigued and was taken to Cloncurry Hospital for further observation.
“The truck has since been removed and the road remains cautionary.”
Department of Main Road and Transport is expected to inspect the causeway to check for any damage caused by the accident.
Original Story: 9.30am
A truck driver is trapped in a vehicle after crashing into Duck Creek river bed, Malbon Selwyn Road, 56 kilometres south of Cloncurry.
The truck allegedly left the causeway and crashed into the river bed at the intersection of the Cloncurry Duchess Road this morning.
A severe storm circled through that region last night, and the RACQ reports the Cloncurry-Duchess Road remains closed in both directions due recent rain.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Service spokeswoman said workers were still on the scene and they would provide an update when they return to the station.
The drivers condition remains unknown.
