Charters Towers Combined Agents yarded a total of 2825 cattle at the second prime and store sale at Dalrymple Saleyards on March 1.
The yarding consisted of 1299 prime cattle and 1526 store cattle.
The prime cattle consisted of 311 bullocks, 128 heifers, 790 cows and 70 bulls.
The store cattle consisted of 790 steers, 679 heifers and 57 x 57 cows and calves.
Prime cattle comprised of mixed quality with some very good lines of cows and a limited number of good bullocks.
The yarding was drawn from Greenvale, Mount Garnet, Prairie, Hughenden, Belyando, local and coastal areas.
In the prime quotes, bullocks were quoted 10c easier, heifers were 10c easier and cows were 12c easier on last sale.
Bullocks topped at 270c/kg for Brahman cross and sold on account of GT & RM Sealy weighing 683kg to return $1846 per head.
A pen of 15 No.4 crossbred bullocks sold on account of Mt Douglas Pastoral Company, Mt Douglas, Charters Towers, for 270c/kg weighing 611kg to return $1651 per head.
The best trade heifers were presented on behalf of JD & RM Lyons, Wambiana, making 239c/kg weighing 450kg to return $1076 per head.
Volume vendor Rob and Sue Bennetto, Virginia Park, Charters Towers, sold 14 No.4 heifers for 241c/kg to average 379kg to return $913 per head.
The top pen of cows was sold by G J Cann for 220c/kg weighing 603kg to return $1327 per head.
Bulls sold on account of Philipson Holdings topped at 229c/kg weighing 520kg to return $1191 per head.
Geaney's Real Estate and Livestock director, Jim Geaney, said the numbers of prime cattle had increased due to recent patchy rain.
“Many producers were keen to offload cattle due to dry conditions around the Charters Towers region,” he said.
Store section was back 20c on last sale. The yarding consisted of good runs of coastal and western cattle, with a small number of buyers in attendance.
Store quotes included, a good pen of Brahman steers sold by WH & DE Alford and Family made 366c/kg weighing 171kg to return $627 per head.
A pen of 15 Brahman cross steers in account of GJ Price & Son made 292c/kg, averaged 388kg to return $1133 per head.
A good pen of Brahman heifers sold by LB & PJ Fuller made 303c/kg, weighed 210kg and returned a good average of $638 per head.
A pen of Droughtmaster heifers in account of AW & ML Bode made 281c/kg, weighed 351kg and returned $988 per head.
Cows and calves sold by Evan Collins returned $1350 per unit.
The next prime and store sale is booked for Wednesday March 8.
