The award-winning Malanda Agricultural Show is sure to provide people of all ages with a plethora of fun filled events and activities when the event takes place this year from Friday, July 7 to Sunday, July 9.
Malanda Show Society Manager Carl Grandelis said the appeal of the event which has been running since 1916 lies in the fact that it has continued to remain a family oriented traditional agriculturally focused show.
This commitment was recognised at the recent local Australia Day Awards ceremony held in Atherton where the 100th Anniversary Malanda Show was named Community Event of the Year.
“There is something for all the family to explore over the three days,” Carl said.
He said the theme for this years show, ‘Ancient Civilizations’, will be tied in with the show ball and the street parade.
Last year the Malanda Dairy Queen Competition was reintroduced, and proved to be a resounding success.
“The competition had a really good turn out last year and this year we’ve expanded it to include sections for four age groups.”
All entrants will be presented at the show ball being held at the Malanda Showgrounds in the pavilion on June 24, from 7.30pm to midnight.
Carl said other highlights of the 2017 show will include traditional events such as the dairy and beef cattle judging and parading and the prime beef judging competition, and a full assortment of horse sport events.
“We’ll also have all the usual poultry, arts and crafts, sewing, floral and fruit and vegetable exhibits and competitions, and the local schools will have their own displays with a junior competition being held for the arts and craft section of the display.”
The official opening of the show will take place after the street parade on Friday night, featuring the Dairy Queen Competition entrants with the announcement of the winners to be made after the parade ends.
A DJ will be playing at the bar on Friday and Saturday night, the wood chop competition will keep guests entertained on Saturday and Sunday and be sure to check out the Bundy kegs display. Patrons can also sit back and enjoy the fireworks and laser show being held on Saturday night.
