Bull buyers and Brahman enthusiasts will be spoilt for choice as the Big Country Brahman Sale has catalogued a near record offering of 401 lots for its two day auction at Charters Towers, on Monday, February 6 and Tuesday, February 7.
Agents Geaney’s and McCaffrey’s Australian Livestock Marketing are confident this year’s line-up again has strong appeal to Studmasters and steer breeders. A record number of 109 Poll or Scurr lots are catalogued, the biggest selection ever in a sale in northern Australia.
In total 52 vendor studs are represented, guaranteeing a genetic diversity of leading Brahman bloodlines on offer, unparalleled in a sale across the cattle country of the North.
A 10am start on the first day will see 131 red stud sires and herd bulls go ‘under the hammer’. It’s the biggest auction offering of red Brahman bulls sold in the north of the nation, which affords volume buyers a valuable opportunity to put together quality lines at affordable prices.
Studmasters will also welcome the prospect of investing in select stud heifers from the Brahman Belles section of the catalogue, which follows the Red Bulls on the first day. A huge selection of 85 well bred heifers (55 Grey and 30 Red), including 43 in the first ‘Lanes Creek Ladies’ Heifer production release, are available. Of the heifer contingent, 22 of them are either PTIC or have a calf at foot, while the balance are ready to join, or are approaching joining age. And 13 Poll and 8 Pink Nose females are included.
Auctioneer Ken McCaffrey, McCaffrey’s Australian Livestock Marketing, Rockhampton, said there are many exceptional genetic lines through the heifers.
“For instance, we have daughters of the breed’s sires of the moment, such as NCC Casablanca (sire of the $150,000 top price of the 2016 Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale), JDH Sir Stratton Manso (sire of the $90,000 top price of the 2016 NCC Sale) and JDH Clanton De Manso (sire of the $70,000 top price of the 2016 Wilangi Sale).” Mr McCaffrey said.
One of the impressive features of the second day of Big Country is the number of attractive, consistent quality, substantial drafts of bulls in the 185 grey stud sires and herd bulls on offer. “This consistency of breed quality and high level beef performance, right through the sale, appeals to bull buyers,” he said.
“it indicates the genetic strength of these leading studs’ bloodlines, and gives buyers confidence the bulls they buy will breed on, true to type.”
Sale Agents expect the increased numbers, with 80 more bulls than in 2016, will maintain sale prices at reasonable levels for all buyers to participate.
Sale co-agent Jim Geaney, Geaneys Real Estate and Livestock, Charters Towers, said the season and market prospects look good to open up 2017, so it’s an ideal time for producers to be investing in their herds.
“We’re not expecting to set a world record price for a bull again this year, as we did in 2016, but you never know,” Mr Geaney said.
The sale offers attractive volume buyers rebates for bulls and females as well as live online sale viewing and bidding in real time, available through Elite Livestock Auctions, on smartphone, laptop, desktop, etc.
Newly appointed Australian Brahman Breeders’ Association CEO Robert Biddle will be attending this feature sale event and is looking forward to meeting many Northern Australian A.B.B.A. members and cattle producers from a wide area of the Northern cattle country.
