Two young sailors were recognised at the recent North Queensland Sportstar Awards.
Tablelands’ Kristen Wadley won the junior category ahead of Innisfail schoolgirl Talia Bulstrode.
12-year-old Talia won two world titles in France earlier this year - in an under-13 girls category and the under-19 Australian team category.
She was also an under-13 world champion and under-19 team world champion in 2015 and has excelled in other overseas and domestic events, finishing second in the French national titles in July and first in Queensland, Victorian and South Australian titles this year.
Talia was nominated for a North Queensland Sportstar Award by the Cassowary Coast Regional Council.
Cr Mark Nolan said Talia deserved a big congratulations.
"At 12 years of age Talia has already been an individual world champion twice,'' Cr Nolan said.
“Both Talia and Kristen would love to represent their country at the Olympics one day.
“The camaraderie of these two girls shone through on the night."
This year's North Queensland Sportstar Awards saw a total of 36 athletes nominated for their outstanding achievements in sport over four different categories.
