Stockmen from around the North West gathered in Julia Creek on the weekend, to challenge their horsemanship skills.
The McKinlay Shire Annual Stockman’s Challenge started on Friday September 24, continued over three days and saw over 90 competitors display their horse handling talent.
The Mini Challenge was won by Ben Leake on Stitch, followed by Lachlan Weston on Cool Chex, Lucy Sedon on Angelina and Bridget Smith on Eclipse.
The Junior Challenge was won by Breanna Curr on Jackson, and equal second and third was awarded to Jemma Curr on Gypsy and Cody Wockner on BJ.
The Juvenile Challenge was awarded to Darcy Wockner on Cracker with 161 points followed by Sam Smith on Riverdaire Reflection and Charlie Wockner on Duck n Romeo.
The Dave Doyle Encouragement was awarded to Riley Candy followed by Tom Morris, Sharon Russell and Samantha Davison.
The Classic Peter McNeven Memorial Challenge was won by Ron Wall on Ambition, followed by Ron Wall on Harper and equal third to fifth was awarded to Brett Hick on Zulu, Lou Lou and One More.
The Futurity Challenge for horses under four years of age was won by Thomas Mills. Equal second to fourth was awarded to Dan Rosett and twice to Brett Hick.
The Open Challenge was won by Sally Stevenson on One More Mistalena, followed by Brett Hick in second on Turner, Doug O’Neill in third on Reydiance and Rob Carn in fourth on He’s High Voltage.
Secretary, Joy Keane, said it was wonderful to see the whole family getting involved in the event.
“There was some great talent on display over the three days,” Ms Keane said.
“It is especially great to see the children in the mini, junior and juvenile challenges having a go. It was exciting to watch the up and coming riders of the challenges.”
Ms Keane wanted to thank the committee and volunteers for their assistance before and at the event.
“We look forward to hosting the event next year and hope more people will get involved int he challenge.”
