John and Coral Winning, Glenview Limousin Stud, Bell, have achieved one of their strongest results at their annual Western Limousin Bull Sale held at the Roma Saleyards on Friday.
The Winnings sold 30 bulls to a top of $8500 and an average of $4550 at 79 per cent clearance.
The top price bull, Glenview Polled Korey, was purchased by Robert and Mary Brown, Benalla, Roma.
The double polled bull was the youngest in the draft at 21-months. He weighed in at 653kg and had an EMA of 122sq.cm and a scrotal measurement of 38cm.
Mr Brown said he was particularly chasing the polled genetics.
“There is a good chance he’ll throw polled calves which is what we were chasing,” Mr Brown said.
“We have a Limousin infused herd and outcross with Droughtmasters. I think this bull will really suit our cattle.”
The volume buyer of the day was also a repeat buyer and longtime supporter of Glenview Limousins.
The York family, Oakleigh, Wallumbilla, purchased seven bulls for an average of $5214 including the second top price bull Glenview Polled Black King at $7000.
A polled/scurred black bull, Black King had the highest scrotal measurement in the draft at 38cm and weighed 663kg. He also boasted an EMA of 130sq.cm and 3mm in both the rib and P8 fat.
Strong buying support also came from the Hudson families at Mitchell and Mungallala. John and Lyn Hudson, Maranoa Downs, Mitchell, took home four bulls averaging $3875 while Cameron Hudson bought three averaging $5833 and Murray and Kylie Hudson bought two for $6500 and $3000.
Blackall’s Peck family purchased two bulls for $6500 while Fred Ahern, Charleville bought three averaging $3500.
