A total of 2504 cattle were yarded at the Charters Towers store and prime sale held on Wednesday where more Dalrymple Saleyard records fell.
A line of 20 steers sold by Brian and Lorraine Corbett, Hyde Park Station, Charters Towers, set the new saleyard record of 418c/kg (after the $4 mark was crossed for the first time at the previous sale) to weigh 170kg and return $708.
The category record was also set for cows and calves by LT & CP Curley, Sutherland Holding, Georgetown after the pen returned $1600/unit.
Slaughter lines at the sale consisted of 1225 head including 332 bullocks, 109 heifers, 699 cows and 85 bulls.
Cattle were comprised of some good lines of well finished cattle, predominantly consisting of cows with also a good draft of bulls also selling.
The yarding was drawn from Chillagoe, Mount Garnet, Woodstock, Ingham, Ravenswood, Georgetown, Collinsville, Einasleigh, Hughenden, Prairie and local and surrounding areas.
Bullocks were quoted 4c dearer, heifers were up 10c dearer and cows were 10c cheaper than the previous sale.
Heifers to 440kg reached 312c to average 253c, no heifers over 440kg yarded.
Cows to 400kg made 240c to average 222c, while those over 400kg peaked at 257c to average 242c.
Steers and bullocks to 500kg hit 296c to average 275c, while those over 500kg topped at 303c to average 294c. Bull over 450kg reached 265c to average 254c.
Bullocks topped sold by Philipson Holdings, Charters Towers made 303c to weigh 583kg and return $1767/head, while the best priced trade heifers were sold by Everglades Trading, Gainsford, Charters Towers which made 311c to weigh 375kg and return $1167.
The top pen of cows were sold by Weir Grazing Trust, Charters Towers for 252c to weigh 482kg and return $1217, while bulls sold by BA & NE Wehl, Gorge Creek via Hughenden topped at 265c to weigh 710kg and return $1883.
A total of 1279 feeder cattle were yarded comprised of 597 steers, 624 heifers and 58 x 58 cows and calves.
Store lines included pens of high quality, well conditioned steers and heifers. The market was again very strong with light steers continuing to escalate in price with a top of 418c, while the before mentioned saleyard record for cows and calves was also set.
Steers to 200kg peaked at 418c to average 392c, 200-320kg steers reached 401c to average 323c, steers 320-400kg made 328c to average 300c and those over 400kg hit 316c to average 282c.
Heifers to 200kg made 330c to average 319c, 200-320kg heifers topped at 328c to average 276c and those between 320-370kg made 314c to average 269c. No heifers over 370kg yarded.
A good pen of 24 Heifers sold by BA & NE Wehl made 330c to weigh 159kg and return $524.
