A re-elected Turnbull-Joyce Government will invest $6.7 million in water infrastructure for Port Douglas and Craiglie.
Minister for Regional Development Fiona Nash announced the commitment in Port Douglas on Tuesday, alongside Member for Leichhardt, Warren Entsch.
The $14.4 million project includes the design and construction of a 20ML reservoir, two and half kilometres of dedicated outlet mains and improved sealed road access.
The project will create over 30 jobs during construction, and another 40 jobs each year.
Mr Entsch said the project has been identified as the number one infrastructure priority for Douglas Shire Council.
“I’ve been working closely with Mayor Julia Leu on the project, and design work and planning have been completed and council has acquired the site,” he said.
“It will remove the current constraints on development and investment in Port Douglas, and secure a reliable water supply for development at Craiglie,” Mr Entsch said.
