NEGOTIATIONS are continuing on Maryvale, a 67,200 hectare (165,984 acre) Charters Towers property which was passed in on an auctioneer’s bid of $8 million at an auction in Townsville today (Wednesday).
Offered by David and Lydia Dennis from Walthum, Clermont, the rolling term lease located 147km north west of Charters Towers on the Gregory Development Highway has been in the same family for 154 years.
Marketing agent Henry Slaney, Slaney and Co, Charters Towers, said four parties had registered to bid on the property.
The Maryvale, Tara, Murray and Boggy creek system form the platform for the watering systems for Maryvale. There are also dams, bores, and wells and a 20km double frontage to the Clarke River.
Maryvale predominately comprises a well-balanced mix of fertile red, chocolate and black basalt soils, along with some granite. The country ranges from tablelands, plains, ridges, and hills with some ranges on the northern side of the Clarke River. The property is estimated carry about 11,000 adult equivalents.
There are two sets of steel cattle yards, each capable of handling 2000 cattle. The property is divided into 25 paddocks and there are some laneways.
Infrastructure includes the striking homestead, a staff complex, and sheds.
