MAREEBA Saleyards first cattle sale for 2016 took place today, with a small yarding and prices pared back slightly from last year’s records.
A total of 89 head was sold with the yard average of 229.8c/kg returning an average $665.65/head.
A new bull sale record was set at a top of 300c/kg under the account of D Coates.
Bulls averaged 205.4c/kg, cows averaged 184.1 c/kg selling to a top of 220.2 c/kg, heifers averaged 242.5 c/kg selling to a top of 271.2 c/kg, steers averaged 246c/kg selling to a top of 295.2c/kg, yearling heifers averaged 244.2 c/kg selling to a top of 269.2c/kg and yearling steers averaged 291.2c/kg selling to a top of 298.2c/kg.
