The Chillagoe Airport airstrip will receive an upgrade jointly funded by Mareeba Shire Council and the Federal Government.
MAREEBA Shire Council will allocate $160,000 towards the Chillagoe Airport as part of the works associated with the Remote Airstrip Upgrade.
Mayor Tom Gilmore said the council had received a grant of $160,000 through the Commonwealth Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development under the Regional Airstrip Access Programme.
Council will match the federal contribution with the funds to go towards resealing Chillagoe airstrip and other minor works at the airport including an upgrade to the illuminated wind direction indicator and drainage and earthworks.
Users of the airport will be advised prior to the works proceeding.
