After the success of the inaugural Northern Beef Producer Expo last year organising committee members from that event in addition to some new faces, are in the process of organising a follow-up expo to be held once again at the Charters Towers Showgrounds on March 4-5.
Northern Beef Producer Expo 2016 committee vice-president Mellissa Holzwart said the 2015 expo was a DAF led event, however the committee has since formed an incorporation “Northern Beef Producers Inc.” and are now a stand-alone, not-for-profit organisation.
“We are dedicated to delivering a premier event for graziers in North Queensland,” Ms Holzwart said.
“The theme for the expo this year is ‘Grazing into the Future’ and our committee aims to deliver an event that fosters innovation in the Northern beef industry for future generations,” she said.
She said speakers (to be announced soon) will cover a range of topics pertinent to the future growth of the industry including succession planning; supply chain efficiency; improving consumer perspectives of animal welfare in the northern beef industry and technology in action which will involve a beef producer relating how they’ve implemented the latest technology on-farm and the benefits they’ve derived from it.
“The expo was a major success in its first year as its innate potential for facilitating extension of progressive beef tools and techniques was realised.
“The combination of trade exhibitions and practical demonstrations of innovative beef tools and techniques as well as presentations from industry-renowned key note speakers ensured the overriding success experienced.
“The event became a hub of knowledge that provided new information to assist northern beef businesses to progress into the future.”
On the night of Friday, March 4 a ticketed social event will be held at the Arthur Titley Convention Centre featuring a surprise entertainment act. The function will commence at 6pm with the theme being Blue Jeans and Bush Belles.
She said the ambition of the committee is that the Northern Beef Producer Expo will become a regular biennial event in the northern Australian beef calendar to benefit all involved in the wider northern Australian beef industry.
Ms Holzwart is also calling on interested businesses to exhibit their products at this years event and/or provide sponsorship.
