WITH more rides, horse sports, showbags and Dagwood dogs than you could poke a stick at, all who entered the Ayr Showgrounds for the 2014 Burdekin Show had a great time.
A new group of faces formed the show committee for this
year, with the aim of bringing fresh ideas to the table.
Committee secretary Anita Murphy said in addition to new
types of attractions, some older ones also returned.
“We had machinery exhibitors back on-site this year, which successfully brought in people who probably would not otherwise come along,” she said.
Long-time show society member and prominent Burdekin businessman John Honeycombe officially opened the show, with a well-considered speech about the changes and developments he had seen occur in the region over the years.
Kids were enthralled with a jam-packed day of rides, sideshows and showbags.
Many also had a chuckle at clown Toots Magic who was
also doing face-painting.

Adults were able to browse the various jewellery, cosmetics, kitchenware, work tools, cakes, flowers, and arts and craft displays that peppered the site.
“Our special guest for this year’s event was David Manchon, who delighted the crowd both young and old with his highly entertaining show, Rooftop Express.”
Rooftop Express was followed by a terrific fireworks display that lit up the night sky.
