DAVID Cameron and Dan Steers share a profound understanding of the horse, the ability to educate and entertain and both are screen stars.
While the two stand on opposite ends of horse sports, with Mr Cameron competing at the pinnacle of the showjumping elite, and Mr Steers campdrafting with the best, both will be competing at the Equine Lifestyle Festival (ELF), and both will feature as part of the inaugural Saturday night extravaganza.
While entertainment is not something that Mr Cameron may be traditionally known for; the dual Australian champion will certainly have all eyes on him as he prepares to give his mount RR Dyranta their all for the Mitavite Sydney Open, an event that sees the largest prize pool in Australia presented to world cup showjumpers.
The limelight is no stranger to Mr Cameron who has found himself on the small screen with Wild Boys and in the documentary Australia.
Again with his sights set on larger fish to fry, Mr Cameron also made an appearance in Johnny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean 5.
The daring duo will tackle fences up to 1.8 metres (six foot) in height, with the goal to go as fast as possible without touching a rail.
“I think because there is such a large prize pool at stake and because this event is an Olympic qualifier the course will be tough,” Mr Cameron said.
“Vallance is Australia’s leading course designer, with a reputation for tough courses, and this will be no exception.”
On the other side of the fence is Mr Steers.
One half of the esteemed Double Dans.
With roots in Western Australia, Mr Steers has grown up with horses.
From experience with leading cutting trainers, to honing his farrier skills he is certainly a jack of all trades.
He has found his passion in training, receiving numerous colt starting accolades.
His entertaining and charismatic personality, coupled with his wonderful affinity with horses has made him a much loved star, even taking him – with partner in crime Dan James – to the small screen with appearances on the X-Factor.
Mr Steers will be competing in the quintessentially Aus-
tralian sport of campdrafting across the ELF weekend.
Once off the horse he will be a unique feature in the Saturday night extravaganza, with a mare and foal he will demonstrate the uniqueness of his approach to training horses and the incredible relationship he poses to create such interactive relationship with these animals.
Mr Steers will join a star studded line up for the evenings proceedings including a heavy horse quadrille team, carriage drivers, vaulters and dressage with New Zealand rider Jodie Hartstone.
The ELF extravaganza will take place from 4pm to 9pm and is accessible to all with a Saturday or three day ticket.
