It was a solid offering of females at the Australian Brangus Cattle Association’s commercial sale at Gracemere this week.
The Monday sale, which preceded the ABCA-sponsored Rockhampton Brangus Sale, saw 126 head of cattle sell for an average of $1155, and the top price was $2600 for a pen of five.
The buyers, Ross and Lorraine Prange, Mt Larcom, are no strangers to paying top dollar.
“We have been coming to this sale for three years, and we have paid the top price each time,” Mr Prange said.
The heifers, offered by Rob and Sara Cook, Rosa Cattle Company, will be joining the Prange’s breeding herd.
“We have a breeding herd on a small block, and we run a commercial herd and sell through the Gracemere store sale,” Mr Prange said.
For the first time, the couple were vendors at this sale and sold their pen of five heifers for $1550 a head to Jeff and Raelea Holzwart, Kensington, Emerald.
“This is the first time we’ve ever sold, and got the top price for No. 5s,” a chuffed Mr Prange said.
Volume buyers of the day were Sue and Mal Burston, Broadlea Station, Nebo, who took home 55 heifers to average $1114.
This is the third year in a row that they have been volume buyers at the sale, which preceded the two-day registered female and bull sale.
