CHARTERS Towers combined agents yarded a total of 1876 cattle at the store and prime sale yesterday.
The yarding consisted of 1053 prime cattle and 823 store cattle.
The prime cattle included 202 bullocks, 113 heifers, 701 cows and 37 bulls.
Cattle consisted of small lines of good quality bullocks with a few large lines of cows with the balance showing the dry times.
The yarding was drawn from Richmond, Hughenden, Torrens Creek, Einasleigh, Georgetown, Forsayth, Chillagoe, Normanton, Croydon, Ravenswood, Guthalungra, Claire, Collinsville, coastal and local areas.
Bullocks were 25c/kg dearer, heifers were 10c dearer and cows up 8c, and bulls were 10c dearer than the previous sale.
Heifers to 440kg topped at 204c to average 182c, while those over 440kg averaged 201c.
Cows to 400kg reached 193c to average 150c, while those over 400kg peaked at 213c to average 189c.
Steers and bullocks to 500kg hit 230c to average 200c, while those over 500kg made 243c to average 233c. Bulls over 450kg topped at 220c to average 191c.
Charters Towers sale records were broken with bullocks topping at 243c for 12 Grey Brahman bullocks sold by G W Carrick, Maitland Station, Einasleigh, which weighed 570kg to return $1368/head.
Lloyd and Cleta Curley, Sutherland Station, Georgetown, sold four Red Brahman bullocks for 243c to weigh 557kg and return $1355, and the top priced trade heifers were sold by RG & JG Cairns, Coolibah Station, Hughenden, averaging 204c to weigh 330kg and return $673.
The top pen of eight cows were sold by BG & M Christensen, Charters Towers, for 213c, weighing 680kg to return $1449, and a pen of 14 Brahman cows sold by Pedracini Grazing Trust, Mistletoe, Georgetown, made 205c to weigh 462kg and return $948.
Bulls sold by Eastvale Pastoral Company, Bettsvale Station, Pentland, topped at 220c and weighed 800kg to return $1761.
Store cattle consisted of 323 steers, 493 heifers and seven cows and calves.
Store cattle consisted of two large consignments of steers and heifers as well as a range of smaller lots with the quality and type being similar to the previous week’s sale with some of the same vendors selling.
Steers to 200kg made 238c to average 209c, 200-320kg steers reached 203c to average 192c, and those between 320-400kg peaked at 207c to average 203c. No steers over 400kg yarded.
Heifers to 200kg peaked at 188c to average 162c, 200-320kg heifers made 188c to average 153c, and those over 370kg hit 162c to average 151c. No heifers between 320-370kg yarded.
A pen of 14 steers sold by Flinders River Cattle Co, Beckers, Claire, made 238c and weighed 200kg to return $476. They also sold a good pen of 17 heifers which made 188c, weighing 197kg to return $370.
