THE 2015 Toomba Horse Sale once again provided vendors with consistently solid returns on the stock they showcased in from of a large buyers gallery at the Indoor Equestrian Centre at Charters Towers on Sunday.
In the ridden mares and fillies section 33 head sold in total to reach a healthy average of $6364 per lot including the top priced horse of the sale in Lot 14, with the athletic and intelligent mare Frankfield Cover Girl from Steve Burnett at Frankfield Stock Horses, Monteagle, Clermont, selling for $16,000 to Grant Telford.

A total of 34 ridden geldings averaged a respectable $5985 peaking at $15,000 for Lot 46 Niagara Forman which was purchased by Neil Teece. Vendor Morgan Marks, Niagara, Clermont, said Forman is a very attractive easy going gelding with great credentials coming out of Pechey Stud Devotion on the dam side and the mighty Hazelwood Conman on the sire’s side.
The led prospects section saw a total of 24 lots sell for an average of $2594 topping at $6000 twice with led filly Denmark Lorrae in lot 56 selling to Zeta-Lea Frost. Vendor Dennis Keys, Hazeldean, Boggabri, said she is a highly athletic and intelligent filly.
“Her parents Denmark Kody and Denmark Sophie are both previous draft winners, and Lorrae has the same attributes that will see her do very well in the campdrafting circuit in the future,” Mr Keys said.
Roland and Sally Everingham, Oak Park, Einasleigh, purchased the other $6000 price-getter in the section in lot 68 Rhondu Roc a Bye Shine from vendor Vicki Miller, Grass Hut Station, Mingela.
In total 91 lots sold for $475,500 to average $5228 with clearance rate of 83 per cent.
Volume buyers at the sale included Consolidated Pastoral Company who purchased seven head for $28,000 their top price purchase was a lovely big ridden mare in Lot 11, Cee Jay from vendor Matt Stanger, Tomato Springs, Mingela which was bought for $6,000.
Fanning Downs Partnership bought five head for $33,000, Travis and Amber Hatfield, Tully, took home four for $13,000; while Roland and Sally Everingham, Oak Park, Einasleigh, also purchased four head for $20,000.
Landmark Stud Stock Marketing’s Mark Scholes said he was very pleased with the result of the sale.
“A high quality catalogue of horses were presented which attracted good support from buyers on the day from the North right up into the Top End,” Mr Scholes said.
“Eleven lots sold for $10,000 or more which points to the spirited bidding over the course of the sale, it’s also comforting to know that all horses that were purchased will be going to good homes,” he said.
