Gregory is a small township in the Gulf of Carpentaria, 120km south of Burketown and 525km north of Mount Isa and is most famous for its "saddle and paddle" weekend in May of horseracing and the canoe marathon,

But Burke Shire Council said that with a population of 50 people this tiny, close-knit community has so much more to offer.

If you are chasing a cold beverage or a tasty dinner, you can stop in at the Gregory Downs Hotel. For something a little lighter or your morning coffee, Murray's Cafe is the place to be and with various fishing sites just a stones throw away and a crystal clear river to take a dip in, you're sure to fall in love with this region.

The Royal Flying Doctor Service provides medical treatment to the local community fortnightly from the Gregory Clinic and there is a door to door mail service twice a week.

The township itself lies on the banks of the beautiful Gregory River.

Filled with an abundance of life, this river also plays host to the canoe marathon.

The annual horse sports and campdraft is also a massive attraction and brings visitors and competitors from across the state.

"It's a magical place that sees visitors, families and friends congregate to connect and share the wonderful surroundings, tranquillity and community feel," council said.

Burke Shire Council is currently tendering nine vacant residential blocks and one residential block with a three bedroom house included, in the township of Gregory.

"If you are chasing a lifestyle change away from the hustle and bustle or somewhere to take the family for holidays, Gregory is definitely a location to consider," council said.
