Charters Towers combined agents yarded a total of 2528 cattle on Wednesday, consisting of 1299 prime cattle and 1229 store cattle.
The prime cattle consisted of 441 bullocks, 34 heifers, 513 cows and 366 bulls. The store cattle consisted of 433 steers, 264 mickeys, 515 heifers and one cow and eight cows and calves.
Cattle comprised mostly good runs of slaughter bullocks and cows with plainer types showing the nearing of end of season.
The yarding was drawn from Doomadgee, Normanton, Hughenden, Georgetown, Greenvale as well as local and coastal area.
Prime quotes:
Bullocks were quoted 10c dearer, heifers remained unchanged, cows were 12-15c dearer, and bulls were 10c dearer, on last week's rate.
Steers and bullocks under 500kg sold to 452c and averaged 406c, and those over 500kg topped at 446c to average 416c. Heifers over 440kg topped at 414c, averaging 366c. Cows under 400kg made 385c and averaged 305c, while cows over 400kg reached 388c, averaging 351c. Bulls under 450kg made 440c and averaged 299c, while bulls over 450kg reached 358c to average 332c.
Bullocks topped at 446c on a/c A and M Blair, Alligator Creek, that weighed 560kg to return $2498/hd. Best priced trade heifers were presented on a/c J and L Pastoral, Ingham, that sold for 414c, weighing 350kg to return $1449/hd.
The top pen of cows was sold by M Curley, Charters Towers, for 388 c, weighing 450kg to return $1746/hd. Bulls sold on a/c LCB Cattle topped at 376c and weighed 575kg, to return $2163/hd.

Steers under 200kg reached 642c to average 523c, steers 200 - 320kg sold to 544c, averaging 446c, steers 320 - 400kg topped at 442c and averaged 428c and steers over 400kg sold to 432c to average 431c. Mickeys under 400kg sold to 450c, averaging 415c. Heifers under 200kg topped at 498c and averaged 412c, heifers 200 - 320kg sold to 462c, averaging 399c, and heifers 320 - 370kg made 418c to average 400c.
A pen of 23 steers a/c Condon Grazing made 642.2c and weighed 194kg, returning an average of $1245/hd. A pen of 25 heifers a/c Condon Grazing made 498.2c and weighed 192kg returning an average of $956/hd. One cow and calf sold on a/c Lachlan Purcell returned $2200/unit.
