For the past three years, discussions have occurred between Queensland and NSW farmer representative bodies to unite as one organisation. Through consultations with our members, we have received positive feedback outlining key opportunities, such as greater unity, ability to have more influence and achieve greater outcomes for members with a merged organisation.
QDO is holding an Extraordinary General Meeting on November 3 in Kilcoy to propose an amendment to QDO's constitution to encourage NSW membership and allow board representation. Amending the QDO constitution is seen as the most efficient and effective way to establish a single dairy farmer body across the two states.
We have taken the necessary precautions to ensure that the merger between the two organisations will be straightforward for QDO's members. The EGM is the key opportunity for members to decide whether QDO should speak on behalf of dairy farmers in Queensland and NSW.
The NSW representative body, Dairy Connect, has been heavily involved as partners in the discussions to date and is fully supportive of the approach being taken. It strongly believes this is in the best interests of both NSW and Queensland dairy farmers.
The merger focuses on the long term interests of Queensland dairy farmers and not to act would be raising the white flag instead of fighting with a strong voice. The entire QDO board has been heavily involved with the process for coming together with NSW and fully endorse the proposal being presented at the EGM.
These changes are in the best interest of Queensland dairy farmers and the board strongly recommends you support this resolution.
All QDO members are invited to the EGM to consider this important issue. It will be held at the Kilcoy Information Centre on November 3 from 10am to 2pm. Members should contact QDO on (07) 3236 2955 to RSVP or email ea@qdo.org.au if they would like to attend.
