When they're a bull you just can't go past, you chase hard to get them - at least that's what buyers on day three of Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale said when asked why they paid $100,000 each for the two sale toppers.
Hitting that money on the first occasion was Rockley Skorpa (PP), offered by the Kirk family, Rockley stud, Moura.
It was the Lanceberg family of Trafalgar Pastoral, Charters Towers, that landed the winning bid for the 24-month-old sired by Elmo Picasso 1023/7 (PP) and out of Rockley Autumn (IVF) (PS).
Weighing 786 kilograms, the sire prospect measured 39 centimetres in the scrotum, scanned 11mm and 8mm, respectively, for P8 and rib fats, and 4.2 per cent for intramuscular fat, with a semen motility of 85pc.
Skorpa looked to be taking top honours for the day, with other big bids only hitting as high as $70,000, until the Radel family's Kandoona draft entered the ring.
It was the third bull in their line-up, Kandoona 16226 (IVF) (PS), that saw Sam Graham and Letitia Nicolle, Halifax and Nioka studs, Biloela, draw the bid spotter's attention until they landed him with a $100,000 bid.
Sired by Kandoona 14018 (ET) (PS) and out of Kandoona 10330 (ET) (H), the 23-month-old tipped the scales at 776kg, measured 37cm in the scrotum, scanned 10mm and 8mm, respectively, for P8 and rib fats, 135sq cm for EMA and 4.4pc for IMF.
A second-top price of $70,000 was also achieved twice, with Emanuel and Tracey Mifsud selling Maru Jaral (ET) (PS) to the Bartolo family of Carrinyah Park stud, and the Radels selling Kandoona 16091 (PS) to Noel and Manny Sorley, Mt Callan, Bell.
In total, the 2021 RBWS saw 811 of 820 bulls sold to represent a 98pc clearance, for an average of $14,490 and gross of $11,751,500.
