For the second year in a row there will be no Fishing Classic at Lake Moondarra,
The Lake Moondarra Fishing Classic normally attracts hundreds of anglers and locals lakeside on the fourth weekend of October for a few days of fishing and fun.
Last held in 2019, it was cancelled due to COVID in 2020 and organisers have now confirmed it will not run again this year.
They have not get given an official reason for the cancellation however it is believed to be a combination of uncertainty over the pandemic plus difficulty getting volunteers to run the event.
The Classic is looked forward to by locals not only for the fishing and related events such as the dragon boat racing but also for the fact it is the only time of year camping is permitted at Lake Moondarra.
But biting or not, the barra will get a leave pass this year.
The Classic celebrated its 21st anniversary in 2019 but has not been held since.
In 2017 Mount Isa teenager Joshua Moren set the record for the largest barra caught at the classic landing a 26.70kg monster.
