Quality Simmental genetics were on offer at the seventh annual Clay Gully Simmental bull sale, which attracted a top price of $36,000 in Gracemere on Monday.
The Central Queensland Livestock Exchange selling complex saw a strong line up of 48 traditional and black Simmentals along with 11 Simbrah bulls on offer from the three generations of the Laycock families.
Overall, the sale saw a total of 59 bulls sell to gross $796,000 for a strong average of $13,492 and a clearance of 100 per cent.
In a further breakdown, 11 Simbrahs sold to clear 100pc, top at $13,000, average $10,000 and gross $110,00, while the 49 Simmentals cleared 100pc to top at $36,000, and average $14,292.
Attracting top price was Biarra Valley Royal (P) who sold for $36,000 to Bill and Kay Geddes, Doonside Stud, Rockhampton.
The 18-month-old sire prospect was offered by Gareth Laycock and Emily Brassington, Biarra Valley, Esk, and is the son of GK Night Dazzler (P) and Lavarta Letti (P).
The Simmental bull weighed 954 kilograms with an eye muscle area (EMA) of 137 squared centimetres, rump and rib fats of 11 millimeters and 10mm, a scrotal circumference of 42cm and an intramuscular fat (IMF) measurement of 5.1 per cent.
A polled Simmental herd bull called Brisbane Valley Q71 was the $30,000 second top-priced bull, offered by Darren and Manuela Laycock of Brisbane Valley, and sold to Simpson Pastoral Family Trust.
The 20-month-old sire prospect is a son of Barana Meldon (P) and Yeeha R44.
He weighed 940kg and recorded measurements of 135 sq cm, 11mm and 9mm in the rump and rib fats and an IMF of 4.9pc.
Clews Cattle Company, Cronulla, Alpha, secured the third top-priced Simmental bull called Clay Gully Quade (P) for $24,000.
The son of Clay Gully Limited Edition (P) and Clay Gully Karousel was offered by Rob and Viv Laycock, Kipper. The 20-month-old weighed 903kg with an EMA of 139 sq cm, rump and rib fats of 12mm and 10mm and an IMF of 5.4pc.
