The Far North Queensland Growers had made the decision to postpone its annual gala dinner, due to uncertainty surrounding Covid 19 lockdowns and restrictions.
The prestigious event was originally scheduled to be held on September 3 at the Mareeba United Football Club.
Bringing everyone together for a night of celebration, the gala dinner traditionally includes an auction of locally-produced horticultural lines to raise funds for the Mareeba Hospital, as well as the crowning of the Charlie Nastasi Horticultural Farmer of the Year Award.
FNQ Growers chair Joe Moro said while planning had been was well under way, the organising committee made the difficult decision to defer the event until later in the year.
"The event not only attracts strong support from growers and industry stakeholders from FNQ, but also across Queensland and interstate," Mr Moro said.
"Lockdown and restrictions could impact on some of our stakeholders and sponsors being able to travel to Mareeba to attend the event.
"So, to avoid last-minute cancellations and disappointment, the organising committee made the difficult decision to postpone the event.
"We hope to be able to reschedule an alternative industry event later in the year, once the situation around restrictions becomes clearer and will provide information when that becomes available."
