Liberty Rural fuel depot manager Nick Buick is the newest Richmond Shire councillor.
At the declaration of the by-election poll, triggered by the resignation of deputy mayor Kevin Bawden, Mr Buick had received more than 52 per cent of the vote.
The other two candidates were Suzanne Johnson and Jaime McLachlan, who received 34pc and 14pc respectively.
Mr Buick missed out on being elected in the 2020 local government elections by 12 votes.
According to Electoral Commissioner Pat Vidgen, there was a 68pc turnout of the 555 electors on the roll, which he said was not dis-similar to other Queensland council by-elections.
Prior to the by-election, Cr June Kuhl was elected deputy mayor to replace Mr Bawden.
