It's been an open secret, but 'Farmer Gregie' has officially announced that his family's Tamrookum robotic dairy and much-loved 4Real Milk brand is up for sale.
'Farmer Gregie' is the affectionate name for Greg Dennis, a Scenic Rim dairy farmer who has made it his mission to share the plight of Queensland dairy farmers - most notably by taking a 2,000 kilometre trip across Australia in his tractor.
Farmer Gregie was met with a parade of support after officially announcing the sale on Facebook to his near 7,000 followers.
The Dennis family established 4Rea lMilk in 2013, and have built a network of loyal customers across the state.
The property has been on the market since the beginning of the year and has had several interested bidders, Farmer Gregie is hopeful the new owners will carry on the now iconic brand.
"It's on the market, it is for sale, we've had a pretty amazing run to do what we've been able to do over the years," Farmer Gregie said.
"It's eight years now since we launched for real milk, I think it's a really exciting opportunity for the continuation of what I started."
Farmer Gregie said the sale of the business was motivated to help the rest of his family enjoy their retirement.
All in their 70's, Greg's mum and dad, Brenda and Darrell Dennis, and aunty and uncle, Rose and Ray will soon be able to "relax a little".
"It's come to a point for the Dennis family to retire,"
"Working 70 plus hours isn't fair on the oldies and there is now time for that to happen."
Until the sale, it is "still business as usual" for the Dennis family.
"There'll be more news as it comes to hand," he said.
"But at the moment, it's quite literally business as usual, on the farm, and in the factory.
"All of our products continue to be available - some people are worried that that's the end of 4Real Milk, and I believe 4Real Milk will continue on, just as strong as it has been."
4Real Milk is available in IGA's all around Queensland and just last month 4Real Milk won five medals of excellence with four awards going to the brand's new 'Dragon' flavoured milk at the Australian Dairy Product competition.
As for Farmer Gregie, the dairy advocate will live on.
"I've always said Farmer Gregie will outlive 4Real Milk and that 4Real Milk will outlive Farmer Gregie," he said.
"These eight years have been incredible, I've been heavily involved in education people about food production and food health."
"I will continue to stay connected with these really important themes in my life."
