Kynuna residents are assured of a water supply following news from the McKinlay Shire Council that planning and design for a new bore and associated headworks have been given the go-ahead as part of a package of flood recovery grants.
According to Mayor Philip Curr, the existing bore is nearing the end of its useful life and the new one, estimated to cost $450,000, was its number one priority for the grants funded by the federal government and delivered through the Queensland Reconstruction Authority.
The shire will also receive $100,000 to replace 250 metres of old AC water mains with 150mm PVC mains.
The grants were open to the 14 local government areas most affected by the 2019 North Queensland flood event, for locally-led projects that increase resilience to natural disasters.
Once the planning and design work for the new bore is completed, the council will go out to public tender to select a contractor.
