JOHN and Sally Turley, Wandovale Station, put together an impressive draft of 20 bulls to go into their commercial herd at one of their breeding blocks, Nulla Station, 150km north west of Charters Towers.
The family, including their three daughters and partners are based at Wandovale, 2.5 hours north west of Charters Towers and operate six properties in total.
They breed on Heliman Station, south west of Georgetown, Pandanus Station, west of Greenvale and Nulla Station.
Wandovale has a breeder herd, but is also used for backgrounding steers and fattening bullocks.
Their two central Queensland properties, Durdham Downs, 110km north west of Clermont, and Plattaway Station, 100km south of Nebo, are buffel blocks used for fattening, while Charbray bulls are also bred on Durdham Downs to run with some of the maiden heifers.
Mrs Turley said they usually buy 30 or 40 bulls each year, and on top of the 20 at Big Country had just bought a mob of paddock bulls from Darren and Melissa Pedracini, Lornevale, Georgetown.
The family is pleased with the draft they put together at Big Country.
"They were from numerous vendors and represented good value on the day," Mrs Turley said.
"The Big Country bulls will go into Nulla to address a shortfall of sires with that breeder herd, and we will be selling some old bulls in the near future."
